This brought back a time when I worried that the Vietnam War would not end before my two cousins in United States turned 18. It was hard to be for that war. But finally people began to honor the soldiers who served and came home again in the later 70s. It was too little- too late.
I remember my Grandfather telling me the Americans don’t know how to treat the men and women who served in a war they lost.
Nice review. The book awakened many memories for me. While there, a few friends and I decided that we would pretend to be crazy. Then, when we headed for home we could stop pretending and be sane. Seem that you used some of the same adaptive mechanisms.
